Stocks are one of the most popular capital market instruments among investors. Simply put, a stock represents proof of ownership in a limited liability company, indicating an individual’s or an entity’s equity participation. Buying at least 1 lot of a company’s stock means owning a portion of that company.
A stock investor can benefit from the increase in a company’s value when the company performs well and its share price rises in the market. They are also entitled to a portion of the company’s profits, claims over its assets, and even the right to attend the General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS). All of these rights are granted to a stock investor even if they own only 1 lot of shares.

Stock Lot Unit
A "lot" is the official unit used in stock trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Prior to 2014, 1 lot consisted of 500 shares. However, since January 2014, the IDX has set 1 lot equal to 100 shares to make investing more accessible, especially for retail investors. This adjustment—still in effect today—was also aimed at improving market liquidity.
Therefore, in the IDX Regular Market, investors can buy and sell stocks with a minimum of 1 lot or 100 shares. For example, if the price of one share of a listed company is IDR 1,500, then an investor must transact at least IDR 1,500 × 100 shares (1 lot) = IDR 150,000 (excluding transaction fees or brokerage charges).
